This year’s Construction Career Day was the largest to date!
The event, held September 19, 2013 at MSU Cherry Expo Center, featured hands-on activities provided by industry professionals that offered students a glimpse of the diversity of careers in the industry.
Nearly three-fourths of construction firms across the country report they are having trouble finding qualified craft workers to fill key spots amid concerns that labor shortages will only get worse, according to the results of an industry-wide survey released by the Associated General Contractors of America. Seven hundred construction firms participated in the survey conducted during July and August of this year. The most frequently reported difficulties are in filling onsite construction jobs, such as carpenters, equipment operators and laborers. Fifty-three percent are having a hard time filling professional positions – especially project supervisors, estimators and engineers. More on the survey here.
Be a part of our efforts to address this labor shortage by getting involved in next year’s Construction Career Day. Help us show students of today that there are great careers available in the construction industry. It’s a win-win for everyone involved.
